Fisherman’s Warf, San Francisco

Boats moored at Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco | Dawn Devine • Davina at Home and Abroad

One afternoon I took a day trip via train to San Francisco.  When I have friends visiting from out of town, they often love to visit “The City.”  From my home, you can hop on public transportation and get up there in about an hour via Caltrain.

Fisherman’s Wharf is a tourist mecca.  There are always loads of people in this part of town. On this day, with the sky a brilliant blue, it was wall-to-wall!   It is difficult to take interesting photos when there are so many people around.  So on this particular May day, I focussed on the water.

The famed California Sea Lions were basking in the warm spring sunshine and mostly asleep. Although there’s always a large raucous hoard of sea lions near Pier 39, if you keep your eyes peeled, you can find little groups of them tucked away on piers in other parts of the waterfront.
