Storm over Lands End, March 2018

Last week I had the opportunity to take an afternoon and head up to San Francisco to attend the opening of the Bouquets to Art 2018 exhibition.  For one week, florists take over the museum and create displays that are inspired by the art.  It was a rainy day, and we got to the city early and had the opportunity to head up to Lands End, and enjoy the amazing skyscapes, the clouds, and the high surf. This is the view of the remains of the Sutro Baths in the foreground and the magnificent storm-whipped waves of the Pacific ocean.

The evening “Members Only” event sounded way more exclusive than the overly crowded event turned out.  The crowds were so thick at times, that there was no way to enjoy the floral displays from more than one angle.  This image is taken with my arms at full extension looking over a row of folks and it’s the only picture I managed to take where there is no person standing between the flowers and the art!  My favorite flowers at the show were these glorious multi-colored roses.  For more information about the De Young Museum located in Golden Gate Park San Francisco, visit their website.

If you are planning a trip to San Francisco, I highly recommend heading to Lands End.  There is a beautiful welcome center, gift shop, and coffee bar beside a large free parking lot.  From this location, you can hike down to the modern ruins of the Sutro Baths, venture into a sea cave, and enjoy the sea.

There is also a wide easy hiking path that wraps around the headlands and offers stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge.  For more information on hours and location, visit the National Park Service website for details.
