Ruined Roman Villa, Pompeii

There are not enough words available to describe how intense a visit to Pompeii is.  Even after a dozen years, I’m still processing my thoughts.  For me, the lasting impression is one of connection to this lost world.  Visiting the homes, the civic buildings, the cultural spaces, the temples, the baths, I see these features appearing in our own culture over and over. Here, I’m peering outward from the inside of the main room of a domus, or house, into the peristyle garden. Love the squared off pillars with their ornate columns, a thoroughly Roman reinterpretation of the Greek column.
